King Sunny Ade and his 21 Piece Orchestra!!!! The band had the 4 elders on talking drums, 3 guitarists, a host of female singers and dancers, several kids playing shakers, a dozen assorted conga, bongo, percussion masters and well, nothing like it in the world...

Saw King Sunny Ade in Santa Cruz - people were throwing money on the stage

Fela Anakulapo Kuti on Fela day in Berkeley at the Berkeley Community Theatre was incredible. Among top shows I ever saw.

I would also add T-Heads, King Crimson (3 of a Perfect Pair Tour) and Zappa - all w/ Belew. (Hell, I had a great time at the Bears)

THE CLASH was incredible - new wave or not, I danced.

And ready for the flaming, but U2 on St. Patrick's Day on Zoo TV Tour with Pixies opening in the Boston Garden will forever remain a top 10 show."Dirty old town..."

They were unreal. Did they do the bit where they all came out gradually until there was this huge writhing musical dragon on stage? Sly and Robbie, who were hot reggae dudes, opened and compared to King Sunny, they were dullsville.

For me1. Jimi Hendrix first time White Plains Civic Center
2.Cream-- Hunter Collage
3-Pink Floyd--- Roosevlt Stadium -entire second set the full run through of Dark Side of the Moon.
4.The Who- Oakland Colisium 2hrs plus greatest hits pkg w/ most of Tommy in as well. As the opener it was the Dead, medicore at best the Who played rings around them.

I went to the Oakland Coliseum shows too. I thought the first day was sort of a tie even though I was blown out by the Who. The deal for me was that on Sunday, the Who played the same dang show and the Dead killed.

I've heard that the Who were doing that . It was a chronalogical greatest hits pkg which was great for one day . I would've freaked if I heard 2 identical shows. Readind Lesh's book he clearly said the second day they held their own , but the first day like I said was mediocre at best.
